Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the development of students in understanding mathematical concepts using the PBL (Project Based Learning) learning model. This research method adopts the Classroom Action Research (CAR) design by following the Kemmis and McTaggart cycle model which includes four main stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflective evaluation. The subjects of the study consisted of 15 fifth grade students of SDN 02 Limboto. Data collection techniques used observation and test techniques. Data analysis techniques used observation data and learning outcomes. Based on the results of the study conducted at SD Muhammadiyah 1 Limboto, it can be concluded that the use of fraction board learning media to explain the concept of equivalent fractions can improve the ability to understand the concept of equivalent fractions in fifth grade students of SD Muhammadiyah. This is evidenced by the fact that student activity in cycle I in two meetings only reached 20% but in cycle II student activity had reached 100% meaning an increase of 80%, this can be categorized as a high increase so that the action research was stopped in cycle II.
