Abstract

This research examines the influence of traditional games on the social interaction of elementary school-aged children at TPA Al-Muhtadin, Gorontalo. Two types of games were used: Domikado and Snakes and Ladders, each involving elements of cooperation, communication, and discipline. The research employed a quantitative approach with an experimental design, involving 16 children aged 6–12 who were divided into two groups, each playing one of the games. A behavioral checklist was used during both the pretest and posttest to assess social interaction aspects such as verbal and non-verbal communication, empathy, and social engagement throughout the gameplay. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, and a paired samples t-test. The results showed a significant increase in social interaction scores after the intervention, with a p-value of 0.000 < 0.005. These findings indicate that traditional games have a positive effect on enhancing children's social interaction. The study highlights the importance of preserving traditional games as effective educational tools for developing social skills in elementary-aged children.
