Publication Ethics

1. Ethical Guidelines for Journal Publication

JEKSYAH: Islamic Economics Journal is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal published by the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business, IAIN Sultan Amai Gorontalo, Indonesia. The journal publishes two issues annually, in May and September.

This publication ethics statement establishes the ethical responsibilities of all parties involved in the publication process, including authors, the editor-in-chief, the editorial board, reviewers, and the publisher. JEKSYAH is committed to maintaining academic integrity, fairness, transparency, confidentiality, and accountability throughout the editorial and publication processes.

All parties involved in scholarly publishing are expected to uphold appropriate ethical standards to ensure the quality, reliability, and integrity of published research.

2. Responsibilities of Editors

2.1. Publication Decisions

The editor-in-chief is responsible for deciding which submitted manuscripts should be accepted for publication. Decisions must be based on the manuscript's originality, scholarly quality, methodological soundness, relevance to the journal's focus and scope, and contribution to academic knowledge.

Editors must consider reviewers' recommendations and the journal's editorial policies. They must also comply with applicable legal requirements concerning copyright infringement, defamation, and plagiarism. The editor may consult the editorial board or other qualified experts when necessary.

2.2. Fair Play

Editors must evaluate manuscripts objectively and fairly, without discrimination based on the authors' race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political views. Editorial decisions must be based on academic merit and the journal's publication criteria.

2.3. Confidentiality

Editors and editorial staff must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and related communications. Information about a manuscript may only be disclosed to the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, editorial advisers, the publisher, or other authorized parties as necessary for the editorial process.

2.4. Conflicts of Interest

Editors must not use unpublished information disclosed in submitted manuscripts for their own research or personal advantage without the author's explicit written consent. Editors who have financial, personal, professional, or institutional conflicts of interest must disclose them and, where appropriate, withdraw from handling the manuscript.

3. Responsibilities of Reviewers

3.1. Contribution to Editorial Decisions

Peer review assists editors in evaluating the quality, originality, validity, and relevance of submitted manuscripts. Reviewers should provide constructive feedback to support editorial decisions and help authors improve their work.

3.2. Timeliness

Reviewers who feel unqualified to assess a manuscript or are unable to complete a review within the agreed timeframe should promptly notify the editor and decline the invitation.

3.3. Confidentiality

Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. Reviewers must not share, distribute, or discuss manuscript content with unauthorized individuals without the editor's permission.

3.4. Objectivity and Professional Conduct

Reviews must be conducted objectively and professionally. Personal criticism of authors is inappropriate. Reviewers should clearly explain their assessments and support their recommendations with relevant academic arguments.

3.5. Acknowledgement of Sources

Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. They should also inform the editor of substantial similarities or overlaps between the manuscript under review and other published works of which they are aware.

3.6. Conflicts of Interest

Reviewers must disclose any financial, professional, personal, collaborative, or institutional relationships that could influence their assessment of a manuscript. Reviewers should decline assignments when such conflicts could compromise their impartiality. Confidential information and ideas obtained through peer review must not be used for personal or professional advantage.

4. Responsibilities of Authors

4.1. Reporting Standards

Authors must present an accurate and objective account of their research, including the methods, data, findings, and interpretation. Manuscripts should contain sufficient detail and appropriate references to support scholarly evaluation and, where applicable, replication. Fabrication, falsification, and knowingly misleading statements are unacceptable.

4.2. Originality and Plagiarism

Authors must ensure that their submissions are original and that the work and words of others are properly acknowledged through appropriate citation and referencing. Plagiarism, including unattributed copying and inappropriate reuse of previously published work, is unacceptable.

JEKSYAH screens submitted manuscripts using Turnitin and applies a maximum similarity threshold of 25%. The similarity report is evaluated by the editorial team to determine the nature and extent of textual overlap. A similarity score below the threshold does not automatically establish that a manuscript is free from plagiarism, and a score above the threshold does not by itself establish misconduct. Editorial decisions take into account the context of the identified similarities and the journal's Plagiarism Policy.

4.3. Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication

Authors must not submit the same manuscript simultaneously to more than one journal. Manuscripts must not contain substantial duplication of previously published work without appropriate disclosure, justification, and citation. Related publications or manuscripts that could raise concerns about redundant publication must be disclosed to the editor.

4.4. Acknowledgement of Sources

Authors must appropriately acknowledge all sources that have significantly influenced their research. All works cited in the manuscript must be accurately referenced.

4.5. Authorship and Contributions

Authorship must be limited to individuals who have made substantial intellectual contributions to the conception or design of the research, data collection, analysis or interpretation, or the development of the manuscript. Individuals who have made other relevant contributions should be acknowledged appropriately.

The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all listed authors have approved the final manuscript and agreed to its submission. Changes to authorship after submission must be justified and approved by all affected authors, subject to the journal's procedures and the editor's decision.

4.6. Disclosure of Conflicts of Interest and Funding

Authors must disclose financial or non-financial interests that could reasonably be perceived as influencing their research, analysis, or conclusions. All sources of financial support for the research must be acknowledged. If no relevant conflict of interest exists, authors should explicitly state this in their manuscript.

4.7. Research Integrity and Ethical Approval

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their research complies with applicable ethical standards and legal requirements. Where research involves human participants, personal data, animals, or other activities requiring ethical approval, authors must provide relevant approval or exemption information when applicable.

Authors must not fabricate or falsify data, manipulate research results improperly, or misrepresent their findings. Authors are also responsible for ensuring that the research and its reporting comply with the applicable requirements of their institutions and relevant authorities.

4.8. Errors in Published Works

If authors discover a significant error or inaccuracy in their published article, they must promptly notify the editor or publisher and cooperate in assessing the issue. Depending on the nature and significance of the error, the journal may publish a correction or take other appropriate action, including retraction when warranted.

5. Allegations of Research Misconduct

JEKSYAH takes allegations of research misconduct seriously. Research misconduct may include fabrication or falsification of data, plagiarism, inappropriate manipulation of research results or images, duplicate publication, improper authorship practices, undisclosed conflicts of interest, and other serious violations of research or publication ethics.

When an allegation is received, the editor will assess the information and available evidence to determine whether further investigation is warranted. The journal may request an explanation, supporting documentation, or a response from the authors. Where necessary, the journal may consult relevant institutions, research ethics committees, or other appropriate parties.

All allegations will be handled fairly, confidentially, and impartially, with due consideration for the rights of the parties involved. An allegation alone does not establish misconduct. Editorial action must be based on a reasonable assessment of the available evidence and the responses received.

Where misconduct is substantiated, possible actions include rejection of the manuscript, publication of a correction or editorial notice, retraction of a published article, and notification of the relevant institution when appropriate.

6. Post-Publication Discussion

JEKSYAH welcomes constructive scholarly discussion concerning articles published in the journal. Readers who identify substantial errors, methodological concerns, or issues affecting the interpretation or integrity of a published article may contact the editorial office and provide a clear explanation supported by relevant evidence.

The editor will assess the concern and may seek clarification from the authors, consult independent experts, or invite a response from the authors where appropriate. Authors will be given a reasonable opportunity to respond to substantive concerns about their work.

Depending on the outcome, the journal may publish a response, clarification, correction, editorial notice, or retraction, as appropriate. All post-publication concerns will be handled fairly and professionally to protect the accuracy and integrity of the scholarly record.

7. Corrections and Retractions

JEKSYAH is committed to preserving the accuracy and integrity of the scholarly record. When a published article is found to contain an error or is subject to a substantiated ethical concern, the editor will assess the issue and determine the appropriate action.

7.1. Corrections

A correction may be published when an error affects the accuracy, clarity, or completeness of an article but does not invalidate its principal findings or conclusions. The correction must clearly identify the affected article and explain the changes made.

7.2. Retractions

An article may be retracted when reliable evidence indicates serious problems, including substantial plagiarism, fabricated or falsified data, serious errors that invalidate the findings, unethical research practices, or other circumstances that make the findings unreliable.

Retraction decisions will be made by the editor based on the available evidence and, where appropriate, consultation with the authors, institutional representatives, or independent experts. The journal will publish a retraction notice explaining the reason for retraction. Retracted articles will remain identifiable in the scholarly record with their retracted status clearly indicated, except where removal is required by law or other exceptional circumstances.

7.3. Expressions of Concern

Where serious concerns have arisen but an investigation is incomplete or the available evidence is inconclusive, the journal may publish an expression of concern when appropriate. Further action may be taken when additional evidence becomes available.

8. Publisher's Responsibilities

The publisher supports the editor and editorial board in maintaining editorial independence and publication integrity. Publication decisions must not be influenced by commercial interests, personal relationships, or inappropriate external pressures.

The publisher and editorial team are responsible for maintaining appropriate editorial procedures, protecting the confidentiality of submitted materials, and addressing ethical concerns in accordance with the journal's policies.

9. Commitment to Publication Integrity

All authors, editors, reviewers, and other parties involved in the publication process are expected to uphold the ethical standards outlined in this statement. JEKSYAH may take appropriate editorial action when violations of publication ethics are identified, subject to a fair assessment of the available evidence and the journal's applicable policies.

This statement should be read together with the journal's Author Guidelines, Peer Review Policy, Plagiarism Policy, Copyright Notice, and other relevant publication policies.
