Abstract

Contemporary Islamic political discourse faces great challenges in formulating the relationship between religion, power, and governance. The debate on political legitimacy, leadership ethics, democracy, and accountability of power shows the need to re-explore Islamic normative sources that can contribute to modern government practices. This article aims to reconstruct the principles of political ethics of the Prophet Muhammad based on hadith literature and analyze their relevance to the development of contemporary Islamic politics. This research uses a qualitative approach with the method of library research and thematic analysis of hadiths related to leadership, justice, trust, deliberation, and the responsibility of rulers to society. The main sources of research come from primary hadith books such as Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, Sunan Abī Dāwūd, and Musnad Aḥmad, which are analyzed through the perspective of Islamic political thought and good governance theory. The results of the study show that the Prophet's political ethics are built on five main principles: trust, justice, deliberation, public service, and moral accountability. These principles show that politics in the perspective of hadith is not only related to the legitimacy of power, but also the ethical responsibility of a leader in realizing the benefits of society. This article offers the concept of Prophetic Governance as an alternative framework in understanding Islamic politics that is oriented towards values, justice, and public welfare.
