Abstract
This article briefly examines the history of the growth and development of hadith from the time of the Prophet Muhammad SAW to the time of hadith bookkeeping. Hadith, as the main source of Islamic teachings after the Koran, underwent a long and complex evolutionary process. During the time of the Prophet, hadith were transmitted orally and served as direct guidance for the companions. After the death of the Prophet, the companions began to spread the hadith to increasingly widespread areas of Islam. During the tabi'in period, efforts to collect and write down hadith began to be carried out to maintain their authenticity. Various scientific methods were introduced to ensure the authenticity of the sanad and matan hadith. The peak of these efforts occurred in the 3rd century Hijriyah, when scholars such as Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim composed monumental works that codified authentic hadiths.
