Plagiarism and Retraction Policy

Plagiarism Policy
Mutanaqishah: Journal of Islamic Banking practices zero tolerance towards plagiarism. We use Turnitin to evaluate the similarity index and then the editor decides the case of possible plagiarism. Editorial board has passed the following actions:

  1. Similarity Index above 25 percent: Article Rejected (due to poor citation and/or poor paraphrasing, article outright rejected, no resubmission accepted).
  2. Similarity Index (15-25 percent): Send to the author for improvement (provide correct citations to all places of similarity and do good paraphrasing even if the citation is provided).
  3. Similarity index Less than 15 percent: Accepted or citation improvement may be required (proper citations must be provided to all outsourced texts).

In cases 2 and 3: The authors should revise the article carefully, add required citations, and do good paraphrasing to outsourced text. And resubmit the article with a new Turnitin report showing no plagiarism and similarity less than 15 percent.

Retraction Policy
Retractions are considered and published when there are severe errors in an article that invalidate the conclusions. Retractions are also made in cases where there is evidence of publication malpractice, such as plagiarism, duplicate publication, or unethical research.

According to industry best practice and in accordance with COPE guidelines, Mutanaqishah: Journal of Islamic Banking implements the following procedure if a retraction is confirmed:

  • A retraction note titled “Retraction: [article title]” signed by the authors and/or the editor is published in a subsequent issue of the journal and listed in the contents list.
  • In the electronic version, a link is made to the original article.
  • The online article is preceded by a screen containing the retraction note. It is to this screen that the link resolves; the reader can then proceed to the article itself.
  • The original article is retained unchanged save for a watermark on the HTML and PDF indicating on each page that it has been “retracted.”
