This article discusses the reinterpretation of the mutasyabihat verse Yadullāh Fauqa Aidīhim in Q.S. Al-Fath verse 10, which has generated many debates among Muslims regarding the meaning of the mutasyabihat verse. This study employs the semiotic theory developed by Roland Barthes. In uncovering a new meaning of the phrase Yadullāh Fauqa Aidīhim, the author examines both classical and contemporary interpretations and combines them with Roland Barthes’ theory of denotation and connotation. Denotatively, the word yadun means “hand”; however, connotatively, it may signify arm, handle, grip, power, promise, role, and duty. The connotative meaning then gives rise to an ideology that eventually forms a myth. Thus, the word “hand,” which initially belongs to the domain of attributes, shifts into the domain of power. This is interpreted as Allah’s absolute ability and authority over everything He wills.
