Potret Moderasi Beragama di SMP Katolik Santa Maria Gorontalo

Abstract

This study arose from an awareness of the importance of instilling values of religious moderation in education, especially in schools based on a particular religious identity. The focus of the study was on how non-Catholic students interpreted their experiences in a Catholic school environment, using Santa Maria Gorontalo Catholic Junior High School in Gorontalo as the location for the study. A qualitative approach was used with a case study design, involving five participants consisting of teachers and students from various religious backgrounds. Data was obtained through in-depth interviews and then processed using qualitative descriptive analysis to explore patterns in their experiences and perceptions in greater depth. Based on the results of interviews and observations, the author found that this school has succeeded in creating an inclusive and warm learning atmosphere. Non-Catholic students feel accepted, valued, and comfortable being part of the school community. Social interactions between students and the exemplary behavior of teachers play an important role in fostering mutual respect and moderation. These findings show that religious moderation does not always have to be taught through formal programs or policies, but can grow naturally through warm social relationships and daily practices in the educational environment.
