KONSEP WASATHIYAH ISLAM DALAM KONTEKS GLOBALISASI DAN PENDIDIKAN MULTIKULTURAL

Abstract

The Indonesian nation consists of a pluralistic society. If this plurality is not addressed properly, it will cause various problems. The concept of inclusive religion needs to be instilled so as not to cause radicalism, extremism, terrorism. The concept is Wasathiyah or religious moderation. The purpose of this research is to conduct a study of the Wasathiyah concept of Islamic religious education in the context of globalization and multiculturalism. This research uses qualitative methods with literature studies. The research implementation process is as follows: (1) data reduction, selecting data with certain categories; (2) data presentation, the research findings are presented systematically and clearly; and (3) conclusion drawing. The results showed that, first, the challenges of Islamic education in the era of globalization are (a) advances in science and technology; (b) democratization; and (c) moral decline. Second, there are three pillars in counteracting radicalism, (1) the pillar of justice; (2) the pillar of balance; and (3) the pillar of tolerance. Third, there are three strategies in strengthening religious moderation, (1) strengthening the concept of moderation; (2) developing curriculum content; and (3) optimizing Islamic religious education learning. Fourth, there are characters that need to be instilled in education in the era of globalization, namely (1) Tawasuth (middle); (2) Tatsamuh (tolerant); (3) Tawazun (balanced); and (4) I'tidal (consistent, firm and fair).
